St Bavo’s
Cathedral - St
Bavo’s Cathedral is located in the eastern part of the city. It is a massive
Church made of brick and granite that is located on the spot of the Saint Jans
Church. The church was given its present name by Charles V after he destroyed
the old church to build a fortress in its place. It was completed in the late
13th century and 15th century. It has many important
artworks on display including the The Altar of Ghent, more famously known as
The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb by the famous painter Peter Paul Rubens.
